As an ST4 paediatric trainee or above, or a post-completion paediatrician, you may wish to apply for a Special Interest (SPIN) module. This comprises additional training and experience in a clinical area.
SPIN modules are additional training and experience in a particular clinical area. For trainees, the indicative training time is about 12-18 months full-time and for post-completion paediatricians, the time ranges from 12 months to 5 years, depending on existing working arrangements.
All doctors approved for a SPIN module will get the SPIN curriculum added to their ePortfolio account for five years.
We have two application periods for trainees (post-completion doctors can apply at any time):
- May for an August/September start of that year
- November for a February/March start of the following year
The application form will be available on your ePortfolio account for the entirety of those two months and will need the approval of your Training Programme Director (TPD).
When you are approved to start your SPIN, we will add the SPIN curriculum to your ePortfolio. You will be required to upload and link evidence on ePortfolio to demonstrate you are meeting the appropriate requirements for the SPIN module.
You will need to complete a mandatory mid-point review with your SPIN lead before you apply to complete your SPIN.
For the list of SPIN modules that are accepting applications, see our SPIN page on the main website.
If you have any questions about SPIN please submit a request.
